Well, why would some manifestation that was *not* really Christian
bother to tell Vincent that Jack is his son? It's not like he was
talking to a person and trying to convince that person of his
identity. Furthermore, why would a manifestation talk when no one is
there to listen?

bamboo forest, unconscious. I need you to go wake him up. Okay? Go

Oceanic hadn't received the proper do***entation, so it's not clear
that the corpse was ever on the plane, but yes, Jack certainly
believed Christian was dead.

Personally, I don't think it's either of those.
Christian is dead. As we understand death.
But we don't know what happens after death. I don't think the island
brought Christian back to life as we know it, but why can't there be a
different kind of existence in an afterlife? If the island is a
meeting place between the world of the living and the world of the
dead, there will be some confusion when the two mingle.
