I've believed Ben will turn out to be a "good guy" or at least his
actions will be justified, after reading an interview with Michael
Emerson. He said he likes to think Ben will turn out to be good, and
that's how he plays the character. I think Lost has spent so much time
painting Ben as a villain he almost has to end up being a good guy in
the end. Lost is all about misdirection and pulling the rug out from
viewers' expectations.

I agree too that Michael Emerson is a great actor--just the way he
said "I used to have dreams," after Locke woke up spoke so much about
Ben's past and the trauma he's suffered.
