I couldn't agree with you more. If there were an MVP award given out on
the set, he would win it every year. Hands down. Locke, Desmond and
Sayid would also be right up there, IMO, although Sayid is hampered by
the fact that he's vastly underutilized.
Sadly, they don't seem very interested in really making an interesting
role for any of the female characters. As soon as one of them starts to
get interesting and show some competence and self-reliance, the writers
move off in a different direction, and the character returns to being
little more than wimpy, stereotypically nurturing background material.
It's not unlike the Star Wars movies that get so much homage from the
writers, in that both ****tman and Fisher started out with so much
potential and then were relegated to being little more than bad
stereotypes and eye candy by the end of their respective trilogies.
