About Dreams

by 5aces <tharpo1@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > May 21, 2007 at 02:53 PM

The header for this groupwas originally going to be:

"I Crack Myself up Even When I'm Sleeping." This was to be a reference
to a joke I had in a dream I had last night. However, sad to say, this
nocturnal wittisim of mine was lost to memory a few hours after I
awoke. Now for the folks in alt.tv.mad-about-you I will start out with
what we,in that group call a OMR(Obligatory MAY Reference.) Mad about
you had two episodes with two dream sequences:

1. The Laugh in dream
2. The Albert Einstein dream where good ole Al give Paul Buchman the
cure for the Y2K bug

MAY fans will appreicate the fact that I din't mention the Virtual
Reality episode,which although dreamlike wasn't a dream!

I will now tell what I think are thethree main factors of dreams, there
are of course others and I'm not ovrloking the fact that different
people might log in with other aspects of dreams which they think are
more major than the ones I mentioned. Here goes:

1. Dreams lack detail. That is one reason why dreams are sometimes
hard to remmber. There are few things in them to remember! For
example,if you ever had a dream in which you're in a school room, can
you really discribe the other people in the room?

2.You are always present in your dreams, either as a person or as a
disembodied observer. In the later case, you're outside the dream
itself but are aware of what is happening inside the dream because to
you the dream is like a TV program you're watching

3. Dreams either lack logic or have a logic of their own. The is what
gives them(to the awke mind ar least) their absurdist quality. Various
sitcoms have had dream sequences in their epidodes, however, funny the
actors and writers are the finished product lacks this dreamlike
absurdidy and what you wind up with are jokes, however funny, lacking
the unartistic nutball quality of the sleeping mind.

I will, illustrate all three aspects just mentioned by telling you of
two dreams I had recently.

In my first dream I'm with two of my three brothers, where I don't
know. We are in a room with two beds ,a radio, and a delapadated
bookcase. With the exception of the delapadated bookcase, this is an
accurate discription of our childhood home. However,in this
dream, although we are younger than we are now in real life,we are not
teenagers living in our parents house. More importantly, for my
discussion,it's as if we were in a universe, where there is no other
objects than two brothers,two beds, a radio,and a bookcase.This is an
example of of point #1. For point #3 in the same dream my brothrer
leaces the room(universe) but there is no door,or window to make any
logical exit. The lack of ddor and window is also,(DUH!) one more
example of pont #1,lack of detail.

My second dream, proves point number 2 and 3. My dream, started out as a
nocturnal newsreel which I was watchinf, but not part of.(Point #2) In
it,it told of the banning of certain comic books aimed at small
children, One example(which I remember) was the Donald duck Comics.
And in my Newsreel dream,it pointed out that the soon to be banned
comics had notices of their upcoming censorship. Now my dreams
swtiches to a church magazine(actually publihsed by the church I
attended and you(and The sleeping Me(saw pages of the church magazine
with Donald Duck comics in them urging their censoship. In order to
quail a possible urban legend let me remind you of the fact that
although such a church magazine exists it has never urged the
censorship of Donald Duck comics. remmber this is but a dream I had
two nights ago. Now,as a person I enter the dream, which at the
beginning I was merely observing as a disembodied entity. I'm at the
outside of the church,and a man(Whom I don't know) is handing out
little squares of Lemon custard pie, something churhes are not known
for doing, As he is doing this my Father is driving off with two
children not his own leaving me stranded. As the man is handing me my
slice of pie I crack a joke, quite funny I migfht add, which slipped out
the cracks of my memory a few hours after i awoke. This one dream is
an example of all three points,Where is my mom? How Old was I? This is
lack of detail.
The begging and end of my dream is an example of point number two, even
when I was merely observing the dream from the outside I was part of
it. Att the last part of the dream, I entered\as a lving ,breathing
thing. The Lemon pie,the lack of mom, and the two strange children in
my dad's car represents the dream logic, which escaped even the coke
addled brain of Robin Williams. Sad to say when he was making Mork &
Mindy he had a substance abuse ptoblem.
