The age difference between characters' ages is largely irrelevant.
Makeup can be used to make people look older or younger, plus people's
appearance changes more rapidly at both ends of their lifetime than it
does in the middle, and people age differently anyway.

The supposed barrier is that the twits in Hollyweird believe people
won't go to see an "old man" in a movie, so they "must" replace Tom
Selleck and the others with new actors ... they don't give a damn what
the fans might think.
