Season 4 was widescreen on HDTV, I watched a few over at a friends
house. It looked pretty good.

I caught the segment on the DVD, all the bloopers they showed there
were from the pilot. They also made it look worse by zooming out the
image, a TV (even a widescreen TV) cuts 10% off the edges of the image
so half that stuff visible on those bloopers still wouldn't be seen
even on a widescreen TV.
The light stands, I wouldn't have even realized they shouldn't be
there unless they had pointed them out, and the 'french flag' thing
looks bad, but that is actually visible in the 4x3 version as well.
I really don't figure a widescreen version of the pilot would look so
bad, and I suspect the problems they had were worst with the pilot. I
would be surprised if they didn't have it worked out pretty quickly.
I would have liked to see the season 1 DVD in widescreen despite the
problems, and still hope they go widescreen for season 2.
I know they are showing season 3 in widescreen in the UK, I am getting
recordings of that on DVDR. No Fox logo, they play the full end
credits. The quality is pretty good.
Season 4 was definitely broadcast widescreen on HDTV, I'll be pissed
if they don't release that on DVD in widescreen.
And if season 5 is on Comcast, hopefully I get to watch that
widescreen all the way.
