I agree, getting grounded again is boring and I see them coming up
with something way better than that...
Gets drunk, is totally unable to perform with Kirsten, swears off
drinking for life.
or...
Gets drunk, performs with Kirsten, is totally unable to remember the
experience, swears off drinking for life.
(Sorry, I'm in cynical mode!)
Malcolm did get caught by Lois with a six pack on his way to go
underage drinking back in season 4. He never as much as opened a can,
but the show didn't exactly ****tray it as a negative: "I can't believe
I'm about to do this; underage drinking, making out with a girl where
we're almost certain to get caught... High school RULES!!" The only
hint of punishment there is the next day he admits he doesn't know how
upset Lois really is because she hasn't stop screaming at him yet.
