'Emancipation', where Reese stops by on the way to his first day at
High School, kind of picked up that point:

"This is Gus, He's in the lead to replace you as school bully. He
gives a wedgie that will knock your socks off, and I'm not just saying
that because he has me in a head lock."

Admittedly they drop it after that, Gus never made another appearance
that I remember. But it gave some closure.

They can manage these throwaway references pretty well when they try.
Reese's expert cooking has been referenced numerous times over seasons
3 and 4. And the family photograph from season 1 keeps turning up when
they show Francis packing. (Though not in either the 8x10 or wallet
size that Lois paid $9.99 for, I expect that kind of detail is too
much to expect.)
