Reese, in the 411 cold open, and then he is wearing the same ****rt in
415 when he figures Dewey's scheme with the telephone. I am pretty
sure that ****rt has turned up other times, but I figure I have
declared myself sad enough already for even being able to quote one
example.
It does happen, admittedly not often. And they cycle through so many
changes in one show that it is very hard to spot.
So what's my prize?? :-)

They joke about paying the cable subscription ahead of the credit
cards in one episode. They certainly have their priorities worked out!
But actually, they practically never go on vacations. the night at the
reservation casino and the trip to the water park are made out to be
extreme exceptions. Lois lectures them on that in the water park
episode. "Do you think we are wealthy?"
The clothes they showed they mostly buy once a year in the sales. And
seeing them clothes shopping you can understand why. Reese stood there
under the weight of a pile of clothes getting defensive about Lois
picking out a 'pink' ****rt for him, Malcolm complaining how long it
will take to try all the clothes on. They imply they get a LOT of the
cheapest stuff.
Back in the early days I thought they did a good job of making the
clothes look old, worn, and stained. But even that is realistic,
twelve year old kids might put up with worn out clothes, fifteen year
olds won't to the same degree.
But I would agree what they wear in season 4 does not look much like
the cheapest stuff any more.
