I didn't understand it either. It's possible it's an Americanism of
something, or maybe it just wasn't funny at all. What is there to read
about on a football? I presumed Malcolm was going to let go at the last
second or something, but that wouldn't have anything to do with reading
would it?
Perhaps someone in the alt.* group knows. For reference, it was episode
