It has been done on TV a few times before - one memorable show I remember
was Silver Spoons back in the early 80's. Little Ricky Schroeder holding
a
beer....geez.
They did it about as best as it could be done with all things considered.
Malcolm's "drunk" acting didn't seem too far from the norm until the end.
They did make the house he went to seem like a place that "normal" kids
would be at. Granted it's hard for a smart guy like Malcolm to make
friends because, well, he is smart and because his mother doesn't let him
do
anything enjoyable - but surely there have to be more normal ways to make
friends than drinking.
Talking about how promos tend to build hyperbuzz for a show - does anyone
notice how they actually seem to write entire shows around promos? (Not
just MITM but a lot of TV shows.) They know what lines to throw in that
they can run in promos that play a certain way, and when the show comes
around the shocker line ends up being quite superfluous.

Heh heh heh...when Reese started setting out that nicely prepared exotic
food, I immediately thought out loud "Guess what'll happen when Malcolm
comes home smashed". :) It might have actually added to effect if they
had
actually shown the hurl land on the turkey and stuffed artichokes (I think
that was what those were anyway). Gross, but they do it on ER all the
time.
I think I liked the new spin on Reese's character in this one. In the
kitchen he seems to be a whole different person. Since Dewey's answer to
the "do you fear me" question was "not in the long run", looks like Reese
may be outgrowing that too. His personality transformation from last
season's finale seems to have carried over as he actually led in real
saying
grace (a Wilkerson family first, perhaps?). Just please, Reese - don't
_sing_ ever again. :)

Don't forget an actual rarely interesting (and related to the rest of the
show) storyline involving Francis. All it took to get him and Piama
together was for Lois to be her ever hateful self in the end.

My imagination turns on what those actually are - many times it never
turns
out to be what you think. Those, plus "Softball" and "Block Party" make
it
fun for me to just imagine what they could be all about.
So far overall this season seems better than last.
