I assume you are taking this information from the "Dewey" segment of
"Flashback" where (IIRC) they said Malcolm was 4 when Dewey was
born...correct?

Be that the case, I think this may be explained by highlighting some
season
4 occurrences you may not have seen yet.

At the beginning of Season 4, Malcolm was finally given an age - it was
14,
as he was entering his freshman (first) year of high school. (Actually
nowhere in script dialogue did anyone come out and say he was 14 - it was
merely implied, plus other show press did say it.)

Since then, an episode called "Forwards Backwards" aired here on Dec. 1,
2002 that focused on Malcolm getting grounded for his birthday after
suc***bing to Reese's constant pestering. Since the birthday came after
he
was of freshman age, we can assume that he turned 15 and thus the 4+ year
interval between him and Dewey can still hold.

Remember also that you can't totally rely on given ages - especially from
the first few seasons. I don't know how much pre-show press you all got
over there before MITM debuted, but early promotionals here had Malcolm
being billed as a 9 year old. That would have rendered Dewey all of 5,
which we know has to be wrong.
