Indeed, this I understood. From this also, we know that in the previous
season, Reese is

But surely this would make Dewey between 10 and 11 for this season, which
is not the 11-12 required for him to be in middle school ?
It just seems strange for them to make an error such as this. I have also
been impressed with the continuity they've kept in this programme. Sure
they make the odd mistake but compared to others, they really do pay a lot
of attention to detail. It surprises me that this is a bit of a grey area,
unless I'm missing something else :-)

I think that was down to the fact that the pilot script lists Malcolm as
being 9 and Reese 11, which was before the actors were cast for those
roles. Dewey as a five year old is wrong, indeed. As you said, and also by
the fact that Malcolm is learning to drive in season 4, he must be 14 at
the start of the season, and 15 as the season progresses. Dewey is four
years younger: thus 10-11 age range.
Still one year out for middle school. Maybe he's as bright as Malcolm and
they've let him jump ahead a year :-)
