I watched it! I fell asleep watching it last night but found some time
this
afternoon to view it.
In the prologue we see a man bound and gagged who appears to be
struggling.
We see Steven put his hand over the bound hands of the man on the bed and
squeeze, then we hear a click and the man seems to stop struggling.
The next "victim" is Eleanor. She calls him while he's on the crisis
hot-line, she identifies herself and then hangs up. Steven goes looking
for
her, find her and they end up in the same motel room as the man in the
prologue. She appears frightened. Steven tells her what she has been
feeling and what she believes to be the case he also tells her that her
tumor is inoperable. She hasn't seen a doctor. She's told no one. We
then
hear him tell her how he's going to stop her pain.
There is nothing to indicate that she wants to die or asks him to help her
die.
We only hear that part of it after she is discovered when a call is made
to
the police and Frank et al appear just in time to save her.
The only time we actually see willing participants in the "suicides" is
when
the group (including Mabel, the woman who made the phone call from the
motel
office just before we see Frank and co. arrive) is gathered and Steven
arrives to help them.
While it seems that the last "suicides" appear to be desired by the people
in the room with Steven, it is never really made clear about the first
two.
Obviously, they're not going to help us with this one. No easy answer.
