Pilots are very hard, and it's good to have room for improvement, but
here are a few thoughts I had while watching the "Moonlight" pilot:
Perhaps the show's first misstep was using the "interview with a
vampire" promotional footage as part of the show's narrative (as a dream
sequence no less). Does the information being relayed in the
voice-over narration justify its use? The show uses "Angel"/"The
Inside" scene interstitials. Perhaps it's an homage like all those
"Buffy"/"Millennium" references in "The Inside". I digress. Doesn't
the heroine look an awful lot like Elizabeth Rohm? Maybe I'm just
imagining things. The "Blade"-style vampire cabal. That could be
interesting. Oh good, the private investigator looks off in the side
distance while driving and narrating the voice over for a long flashback
- and he's still looking that way when the flashback ends. It would be
funnier if he hit something - but the show's not billed as a comedy. As
for the flashback, I'm confused. He's been romantically obsessed with
his daughter since she was a child? Ick - but more interesting than the
A story. I guess it's not his daughter - he's just been obsessed with
her since then. Oh look, the kids who want to be vampires. You know,
that was an episode of "Buffy". Oh gosh, I never suspected he would be
the killer. Oh goodness - extended Celine Dion montage of future scenes
that look...familiar.
