Here's the story:
I found a video of a 1980s revival of Death of a Salesman, with Dustin
Hoffmann as Willie Loman.
Stephen Lang played Happy, Willie's other son, and Jon Polito ("Omerta")
played Howard, the neighbor's lawyer son.
I was bothered that Happy looked nothing like our Det. Giebelhouse, so I
did
some research.
This Stephen Lang, sometimes called Stephen J. Lang, has a substantial
Broadway and film career that is still going strong.
Our Stephen James Lang, listed in IMDB as "Stephen J. Lang," has no
credits
in IMDB since 2000 (though I thought I'd seen him in CSI: Crime Scene
Investigation).
As I understand it, SAG forbids two actors to use the same name
professionally (which is why, whenever director John Waters appears as an
actor, he is listed as "John W. Waters," so as not to be confused with the
Australian actor John Waters).
I always liked our man's work, and I would hate to think that he had run
up
against problems proceeding from confusion of names. Of course, many other
things may have occurred, none of them welcome except, perhaps, coming
into
wealth and retiring young.
