Garbage is always more popular than Quality. I can't stand any of the
top 20 shows on TV now and seldom could in the past. Even the ones
that are OK usually don't have much shelf life. They're pretty good the
first time you watch them, bad the second time and unwatchable the
third time. It's tough to produce a show that people can watch many
many times and still like it. MST3K is one of the few.
MST3K's major problem with audiences was that it was too long for a
comedy show. People honk the horn if don't slam on the gas as soon as
the light turns green. Who has two hours available? I'll bet a lot of
people who remember the show, turned it on when they were channel
surfing, laughed their heads off for 20 minutes or so then forgot to go
back because they were so used to comedies lasting for 30 minutes that
it didn't occur to them that the show was still on.
