Yes, for some reason, I don't consider offhand one liners to require
historical accuracy.
In any event, please substitute the appropriate date, if you somehow
feel it matters.
Point is, deriving morality/ethics/etc from a compilation of ancient
tomes is pretty silly, especially when their virtue is not their
logic, intelligence, or insight, but the fact the authors claim "God
told me this was true!" The morality of the God of the Bible is not
very moral at all, and the only reason anyone would accept it as a
basis for proper behavior is out of fear of punishment from a being of
infinite power. Remover that fear, and there is no reason to consider
the Bible a fit guide to living an ethical life.
Unless, you know, you think that stoning your children to death if
they mouth off to you is the essence of proper moral behaviour. In
that case, it might work for you. And, if this is the case, please
don't live anywhere near me. Thanks.
