As I recall it, One Who Waits tells Ed about the big tree and
other details of that location more than 200 years earlier. I believe
he said a native American village stood there. He made a reference to
the laudromat. These details are included in the scene on the NX DVD.
There is no connection drawn between Maggie's father's pilot and
Joel's dead patient. No details about the dead man's identity are
discovered. He seems to be someone--perhaps some kind of solitary
wilderness dweller (no ID; no relatives or friends looking for him)--
who wondered into town seeking medical treatment for a soon-to-be
fatal illness.
