QUESTION for true fans of Norther Exposure :
Who was Bobby Murcer? and how was he invloved in a memorable story
showing a true Christmas spirit ?
Unless you have the commercial copy of Season 1 with deleted inserts,
or my set of 22 DVDs (with impotant deleted inserts added to "Soul
Mates") you wil not be able to answer this question (since neither the
A&E or Hallmark versions included this unique story).
If you know the answer to this question you will pobably be interested
to know that Booby Murcerr just died (on July 12, 2008, of brain
cancer at a hospital in Oklahoma City) He was 62.
As Maury Allen wrote in his book "Yankees: Where Have You Gone?" Bobby
Murcer was "just about the only star worth watching in his first tour
of duty with the downtrodden Yankees from 1965 through 1974", -
though he wasn't around during any of the years when the Yankees won
the World Series. In total, he spent 39 years in the Yankee
organization as both a player and broadcaster.
During his 17 year career, he hit 252 home runs played in 5 All Star
games. He also played for San Francisco Giants and the Chicago
Cubs.
When retiring in 1983, he told a cheering crowd of Yankee fans, "I
consider the Yankees the greatest s****ts franchise in the world,
Yankee Stadium the greatest stadium inthe world, and Yankee fans the
greatest fans in the world."
