You need to go into the DVD player setup menu and adjust the video
display for a widescreen set.

Page 76 shows the players sup****ts a 16x9 widescreen set. Set the output
to that. If the player sup****ts progressive scan, enable that too. I
couldn't find a reference to it in the instructions, so it probably
doesn't.
