No, the composite cable wouldn't be what you want, use component if at all

What DVD are you playing?  Are you sure it's a 16x9 anaphormic one?

How is the TV component input setup?  Does the TV offer any settings for
it?

It may be worth trying the 4x3 setting on the DVD player just to see if it

makes any difference.
