Agree on the cables.

I think most current TV's retain their settings even with a fairly
extended 
blackout ... certainly mine have.  Now the Satellite DVR needs to do its 
thing, takes about 5 minutes, after a power loss.  OBTW, HD pretty much 
eliminates the VCR as a HT accessory.
