  Well let's take those two points.  First, an MOV overloaded mean the
protector was grossly undersized - a complete violation of operation
as defined by every MOV manufacturer.  Manufacturer datasheets are
quite blunt about this.  MOVs must be properly sized so as to never
explode.  Exploding MOVs are a major human safety problem - the reason
why UL 1449 was created in August 1985.

  Second point - man-made surges.  Yes, if you lower the bar, then man-
made surges come from motors, et al.  So do we replace dimmer
switches, clock radios, and kitchen GFCIs every time the refrigerator
or wa****ng machine powers on or off?  Those surges are actually
noise.  Noise made completely irrelevant by protection already inside
every appliance.

  BS, G-squared, is what you have posted because you heard subjective
reasoning and forgot to first learn the numbers.    One source of
'surges' (as defined by G-squared) is the computer grade UPS when in
battery backup mode.  Why is a computer not harmed by that UPS
spikes?  Because elecctronics already have contain protection that
make trivial spikes irrelevant.

  Why do we install one 'whole house' protector?  The typically
destructive surges from lightning and other lesser sources can
overwhelm protection inside all electronics.  When the typically
destructive surge is earthed before entering the building, then
lightning does not cause damage.

  Meanwhile if motors cause electronics destructive 'surges', then one
'whole house' protector also makes those 'surges' irrelevant.  G-
squared, before you start using BS, maybe first learn the technology.
All appliances contain protection.  That is why the hardware store is
not packed every three hours by the same people replacing microwave
ovens and timer switches.  Even those tiny electronics have surge
protection so that motor generated 'surges' never cause damage.

  Why does G-squared believe motorized appliances cause damage?  That
myth is promoted by plug-in protector manufacturers to hype sales.
However, if those surges existed, then control electronics inside
motorized appliances would be routinely destroyed every time the motor
powers on or off.  Just another reason why G-squared's inducitve kicks
from motors do not create surges.

  But again - and this is im****tant.  If an MOV explodes, then the
protector was so grossly undersized as to be a major threat to human
like.  What happens when a protector is grossly undersized?  See these

the term BS as some kind of proof. Others are cautioned how half
truths and the term BS replace science fact.  A protector is only as
effective as its earth ground.  No short earthing connection means no
effective protection.  The effective protector does not explode.  It
shunts (diverts, connects, clamps) into earth where surge energy is
dissipated harmlessly.

Electronics atop the Empire State Building suffer about 25 direct
strikes annually - without damage.  Those who assume nothing can
protect from direct lightning strikes - classic junk science.  Even
MOV manufacturers state that MOVs must never fail by exploding.
Routine is to earth a direct lightning strike - and the 'whole house'
protector remains functional.  Also called effective protection.
