If the cause of failure for BDK is improper grounding of cable or dish, 
which is a distinct possibility, a power service suppressor will provide 
no protection. The IEEE guide shows such an example (starting pdf page
40).

w_  is talking only about the size of a surge, not the current to the 
connected load.

I used a Tripp-Lite suppressor for years. I replaced it about 2 years 
ago because it didn't have a ****t for phone wires. It was also made 
before 1998 and likely did not have thermal disconnects now required by
UL.

The most common cause of damage to equipment is probably high voltage 
between power and cable (or phone) wires. If the VCR is connected to 
cable or dish, the cable must go through the suppressor. The TV 
associated with the VCR also has to be connected to the same suppressor 
(or the TV needs its own suppressor with ****t for the cable from the VCR.)
*All wiring that goes to a set of protected equipment must go through 
the same suppressor*.

Failing MOVs in 12 suppressors is way past normal. Sounds like all the 
suppressors were the same model. I suggest getting a new one with high 
ratings and ****ts for all signal wires that go to the connected equipment.

And check the grounding on dish and cable (and phone). Entry protectors 
  *must* be grounded to the same grounding system as power. The ground 
wire should be short.
