  Jer ignores what responsible professionals state.  Both front page
articles from EE Times entitled "Protecting Electrical Devices from
Lightning Transients" were obviously ignored by Jer.  Numbers
demonstrate why a wall receptacle has no earth ground.  But then the
NEC (National Electrical Code) also does not call that ground for
human safety an "earth ground".  A plug-in protector has no earth
ground.  No earth ground means no effective protection.  To promote
sales of grossly overpriced plug-in protectors, such facts can be
silenced by myths.  Jer has just posted another myth that promotes
plug-in protectors.  Jer - why do you not read the many sources of
fact?  Why do you just know only using speculation?

  Jer, how do you know that protector works great?   Protection inside
all appliances means that a typically destructive surge may occur
maybe once every seven years.  Jer - where is this surge made
irrelevant by your "works great" protector?  Why convert wild
speculation into fact?  You don't know if that protector did anything.

  A plug-in protector has all but no earth ground.  Why does the
'whole house' protector have a 'less than 10 foot' connection to
earth?  Numbers in EE Times demonstrate why.   Numerous other sources
make that same point.  What does an effective protector do?  Make a
short (low impedance) connection to single point earth ground.  Same
reason explains why high reliability facilities do not use Jer's
"works great" protector.

  A plug-in protector will not even claim to provide protection.
Those who know by first learning facts would read both EE Times
articles.  Electrical Engineering articles defining surge protection
do not discuss plug-in protectors?  Correct.  A protector is only as
effective as its earth ground - the point of both articles.

  Does Jer's building even have minimally sufficient earthing?
Earthing that must both meet and exceed post 1990 NEC requirements.
How many just know their protector is effective and don't even know if
a building's earthing exists?  Only component always required in every
protection system is earthing.  Jer demonstrates the ignorance
promoted by myths.  Not once does he mention earthing.  He somehow
'knows' a protector "works great" - a typical symptom when one knows
without first learning facts.

   A protector is only as effective as its earth ground - understood
when one reads those and so many other professional citations.
