The DIRECT path to Earth needs to be lots lower impedance than the path
THROUGH your equipment (ultimately) to Earth.
DO NOT rule out "induced" current flow as a result of a close lightning
strike.  2 different, nearby location damaged the Bi Sync serial ****ts due
to
currents in the serial cable which was in CONDUIT fro the Registers to the
Office computer. Only the ****t was damaged, nothing else.
