  Therefore a protector located too close to equipment can even
contribute to equipment damage - as on Page 42 Figure 8.  Effective
protection is closer to earth ground (for lower impedance) and distant
from the electronics (for higher impedance). Same high impedance that
makes a plug-in protector unearthed.   Telco COs in virtually every
town connect to underground cables connected very short to earth via a
'whole house' protector. That protector is located up to 50 meter
distant from electronics.   Separation between the protector and
protected electronics means that higher impedance adds to protection.

  Same high impedance also explains why a plug-in protector has no
earth ground.  No earth ground means no effective protection.  No
wonder telco COs don't waste money on plug-in protectors.  No wonder
telcos instead use a 'whole house' type protector on every incoming
wire.  Effective protection also means surges are earthed before
entering a building.  Otherwise numerous induced currents flow inside
a building, seeking earth ground destructively, just like the TV on
Page 42 Figure 8.
