The "indoor scenes" are obvious not because of today's monitors and DVD
and 
Blu Ray players, but because of the poor film scanning technique.  The 
transfer is overemphasing the tesalating background of the 3M Scotchlight 
front projection screen, which is not obvious on a large screen
illuminated 
with a projection contrast print.  A projection print does not show this 
because of the contrast it  has, but the low contrast intermediate film
used 
for the video transfer, plus video transfer optics and electronics will 
bring out these elements.

This same problem happen to STAR WARS in the mid 90's when it was being 
re-released on Laser Disc.  The mattes were showing up around the space 
craft as black than black "halos".  This normally would never have shown
up 
in a theatre.

By the way, a 70mm print has about 3,000 lines of image to give up for
video 
transfer at 1080P.
