that spectrum, were first responders. Thanks for clearing that up.

I don't care what they use. Converters are being sold all over, so I can 
continue to use my stuffy old equipment if I want to. Cheap, too, if you 
know where to look - even without the government coupons. And yes, my 
stuffy old equipment is working better than it did with the analog 
signal - proof that it's still viable. The changeover is fine with me, 
because I *don't* have to throw all my stuff out and buy new. But that's 
me, and I'm too cheap to pay the $20,000 that Time-Warner wants to run 
cable the mile it would take to get it to my house. (That's not an 
exaggeration. I looked into it.) I'm not being held hostage, and I 
refuse to be held hostage by a cable company. I'd give up TV first. That 
would be my choice. The customers of the "small cable company" from the 
OP's article *are* being held hostage, and I still maintain that many of 
them won't stand for it if they can find an alternative. It is, after 
all, their choice - just as it was your choice to junk all the stuffy 
old analog TV's you might have owned.
