I finaly got my coupons on Saturday and motored off to WalMart to get the
Magnavox digital to analog converter tuners they had piles of 2 months
ago.
Of course, now that I have the coupon in hand, They are completely sold
out
of all digital tuner boxes.
Next door is a Radio Shack. They had a Digitalstream for $60 (of course,
more expensive in Rat Shack fa****on).
The good.
It is easy to set up and use the menus without any instruction. I am happy
to find that all local channels are digital, most with multiple channels.
The signal meter shows that I get a strong signal and there is no breakup.
No need to switch back to the TV's analog tuner since all channels are
digital. HD channels, when using HD equipment, I can really see a higher
clarity to the picture. When they play a standard def commercial and
switch
back to high def cameras in the s****ts program, the difference amazing. I
was not expecting this from my old 1991 RCA. Yeah, it isn't really HD
picture, but the higher clarity is there.
The little programming guide is a nice feature. I guess all the units
would
have this.
The bad.
The remote is touchy when changing stations. Press too long and it zips by
a
few channels. You have to quick jab to change to the next channel.
When there is a fast blank between commercial and program or a scene with
dark to bright flashes, the TV loses vertical sync and rolls once. TV
never
did this before, so it is something from the digital tuner. Does not
happen
enough to be annoying though.
Don't know if it p***** RF when off since I'm not using RF to the TV. I
can
test. Just ask.
