Beat me to it. Yep, there is the problem: WVIZ-DT is at 1 kW ERP on a
UHF channel. Without a good line of sight to the broadcast tower or
located only a few miles away, it will be difficult to get OTA.
The DTV status entry in Falcon_77's DTV Transition summary spreadsheet
(available on avsforum.com at
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=823166)
says for WVIZ-DT:
"Currently operating under an STA of 1kW. CBS radio had prevented access
to the tower for more than 5 years. To operate on an STA on the side of
the tower once the new lease is approved. Final, top mounted facility
will not be completed until between 2/17/09 and 8/17/09. - CP granted
for revised facilities at a new location (appears to be the WKYC tower)"
WVIZ-DT post-transition allocation is 170 kW on UHF 26. Contact the
station, but it appears that WVIZ-DT will not have a full power digital
signal until spring or summer of 2009. Not all stations will have a full
power digital signal on February 18, 2009. There are some that won't be
able to cover their market until 3-6 months after the analog shutdown as
they have to put up new antennas & transmitters.
Can you get WEAO-DT PBS 49 in Akron which has a 180 kW digital signal
on UHF 50?
