Good lord, what do you need with 18 dB gain? Unless you're splitting
16 ways or have 300 feet of cable, that's way more gain than most
folks need. The amplifier is fine but with that much boost you may
find cross-modulation problems with strong signals AND / OR you might
overload the front end of your receiver. HDTV uses the same channel
frequencies as analog and any antenna or preamp that works fro analog
is fine for HD. As always, use good cable and properly installed
connectors and grounding.

Point of reference: we live in ZIP 90274, about 35 miles from Mt
Wilson (Los Angeles) and run a Winegard Squareshooter (4.5 dB gain),
no preamp and split 5 ways and have _no_ signal strength issues at
all. The stations in LA are all at full power so signal is fine.
