Pre-Amp for converter?

WMYD's website mentions that a preamp for the antenna might be
necessary. With the antenna a little more than a mile away, this
cannot be true for my case, but I was wondering how much improvement
occurs, since I've been pulling analog 24 from Toledo. I would love to
pull in East Lansing's PBS and ION-DT 31 from Ann Arbor.
