Multiply that by however many Comcast subscribers are on basic analog
tiers
(probably a couple million or more in the nation), and do the same for a
$50 8VSB box (assuming they are willing to pay the full cost of them), and
you are seeing a $200,000,000.00 savings by going with the 8VSB boxes. 
Then
you can squeeze even more savings by stirring up enough FUD to get
customers
to apply for a coupon and buy their own at $40 off.

Now if Comcast and Verizon and all the others could get a CECB-class STB
made with QAM256 instead of 8VSB, this wouldn't be an issue.  And I don't
see why they can't.  They must see _some_ savings in having a few channels
in 8VSB.
