On my Sony Bravia XBR TV, the screen's geometry settings offer a list of 
choices, and the "Full Pixel" choice exposes what you're describing. 
So, I leave the geometry set to "Full" which hides just the teeniest bit 
of the broadcast image top and bottom.  Nirvana es mi amigo.
