Kind of a fun idea to do two rooms in two different B&Bs. I think they
picked the right rooms with the most potential, too. I liked what the one
HO said about wanting to do the show precisely to get a room that does not
necessarily reflect their taste and look like all the other rooms.
Didn't care a lot for Laura's design or Carter's work in her room, but it
wasn't horrible. The giant wood headboard, desk, divider wall was
overkill
and really took away from the room. Not a bad idea, just overdone. The
bright orange walls and tile were garish. I did really like that funky
chair, though. It looked like Laurie Smith fabric.
I thought Doug's room was very nicely done, and the HO's couldn't have
been
more pleased. Faber's work was gorgeous, especially those little bedside
tables made out of wine barrel slats. His venetian plaster looked nice in
there. Using the map tapestry as a bedspread worked very well.
It was certainly another demonstration of how useless that "bonus" room
concept is. If they just let Doug get away with stealing the $2,000 form
another room, what on earth is the point? But on a hostless show, who's
gonna step in and stop him? Paige would have reamed him a new one.
That being said, I'm just not missing Paige. The bag packing and key
swapping are still very lame, and I do miss a little of the connection
between the two houses without Paige bouncing back and forth and sharing a
carpenter. But there are enough other things going for it that I don't
think it's a bad thing.
